There is a Red Eclipse package repository hosted on open SUSE Build Service that you can use to install game and/or server.
The packages provided there are newer than distributions' packages, so if you prefer to install Red Eclipse via branch on Git Hub is updated.
I just updated from Ubuntu 14.04 to 16.04 and it was a bumpy ride with damaged drivers along the way, probably because of the fact that 14.04 was missing two important drivers that 16.04 did have.
